Wow, I just came back from my four week trip playing my first few events of the year. I went to Thailand, Singapore, Brisbane and Melbourne (Australia). Now I’m in Palm Springs on my week off. I didn’t do as well as I thought I would coming out of the gates, but I’m actually happy with my game, I got my feet wet and I shook some of that off-season dust off.
A really new experience was to actually be in the gym everyday during tournament weeks. I got into a good ritual of warming up for half an hour before I went out and swung a club. That definitely helped me keeping my back smooth and getting my core muscles to fire properly. Of course I did a few extra work-outs during each week to maintain my strength and cardio.
What was quite challenging was healthy eating on such a long trip and especially being in different cultures such as Thailand or Singapore. Although I was really careful, I still managed to catch a stomach flu, but it was over within one evening thankfully. Lots of veggies and fruits are a must. I think if I could choose one group of foods, while being stranded on a lonely island it would be fruits.
I had a lot of early, early tee times (yes I know, playing better means sleeping in – it’s coming! ?) and so I had to rely on a good breakfast supplement at times. Vanilla Cinch from Shaklee (my nutritional sponsor) is my favorite. It’s a complete meal with 24 grams of protein. Tastes great too! You can also use it to make a smoothie with bananas or strawberries.
Well, this week I’m going to step up my work-outs to get ready for the first major of the season – the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Can’t wait for it!
